Phantom Pains (San Francisco’s Eric Haney) has released only two cassettes before this one: the first a split with Slaughtering Dolphins, the second a solo c18, both on Beach House Records. With absolutely no fanfare, Phantom Pains has sprung out of nowhere, fully-formed; all the awkward missteps and growing pains of an emerging artist were skipped over in order to produce one of the most intelligent and astounding Harsh Noise cassettes in recent memory. Shudder will remind you why you like Noise Music in the first place.
